“Let it not be in the name of free speech that the world is destroyed.”

In a brief statement issued today, the USA branch of the Worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at (community) urged calm after violence erupted in Charlottesville, VA at a white nationalists’ rally on Saturday.

Media reports indicate that violence erupted as opposite sides clashed and cars plowed through pedestrians, leaving one person dead and several dozen injured.

The extremists participating in this march chanted numerous violence inciting epithets including “Jews will not replace us.”

"History already records that such hate speech led to violence, genocide, and contributed to many deaths during World War II," said the Ahmadiyya statement.

Quoting the worldwide head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at, His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the statement read: “Let it not be in the name of free speech that the world is destroyed.”

The Ahmadiyya statement said the community prays "for the speedy recovery of the injured victims, and pray for justice."

Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at is a reformist movement within Islam with its current headquarters in the UK.

President Donald Trump also condemned hate "on many sides" in response to the violent protests that media has labeled as a terror attack.

"We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides, on many sides," Trump said during a short statement from New Jersey.
